THIS JUST IN — FROM https://www.cfrog.org/

Help to extend the moratorium protecting water in the Oxnard Plain.

Please contact your county supervisor TODAY and ask them to extend the moratorium which prohibits new cyclic steam projects in the vicinity of the Fox Canyon aquifer. The vote is Tuesday, Nov. 5.

U.S. Geological Survey scientists have found petroleum-related gases in potable water in the Fox Canyon aquifer system near steam injection and wastewater disposal wells in the tar sands there. The study suggests that the oil production may be contaminating the wells. The USGS scientists have asked for more studies.

Contact:
Steve Bennett (805) 654-2703 Steve.bennett@ventura.org
Linda Parks (805) 214-2510 Linda.parks@ventura.org
Kelly Long (805) 654-2276 Kelly.long@ventura.org
Bob Huber (805) 955-2300 Supervisor.huber@ventura.org
John Zaragoza (805) 654-2613 John.zaragoza@ventura.org

We have no reason to trust that oil operations in this area will be conducted properly. The county has found multiple permit violations and nullified the zoning clearance.
Questions? A fact sheet on the ordinance can be found here.

Ask your friends in other districts to call or email before the vote on Tuesday, Nov. 5 at 3 p.m.

Santa Paula Canyon
Saturday, May 13
9 am – 4 pm

Join CFROG for a Herb Walk with Lanny Kaufer. Lanny’s extensive knowledge of native plants and their uses provides an incredible opportunity to learn about the plants around us all the time. AND this hike will pass the Carbon California (formerly California Resources Corp/Vintage/Occidental) operated oil pads behind Thomas Aquinas College – which are the subject of a lawsuit that CFROG and partners have filed against Ventura County for approving 7 new wells along Santa Paula Creek without proper environmental review of potential impacts, including impacts to endangered species like the California Condor and Steelhead trout.

Santa Paula Canyon is home to both the Punchbowl and an oil drilling operation.
CFROG representatives will be at the hike to discuss the issues at the well pads, and we hope to have scientists and biologists to speak about the potential impacts (subject to availability) to the habitat, wildlife, human healthy, creek etc.
The hike will start at the trail head, and for those who don’t have all day you can turn back after the visit to the oil pads – others who want to hike the whole way to the Punchbowls will continue on.

Visit Lanny’s website to purchase tickets (a portion of ticket sales will be donated to CFROG).
WHEN: May 13, 2017 at 9pm – 4 pm
WHERE: Punchbowl Trail/Santa Paula Canyon/ Thomas Aquinas College

WHEN: TONIGHT! Thursday, January 12th.
Doors open at 6:30 pm for meet and greet.
Program starts at 7 pm.

WHERE:  Unitarian-Universalist Church of Ventura,
5654 Ralston Ave, Ventura, 93003.
Fellowship hall; back parking lot.

WHO:  Presenters Kimberly Rivers, Executive Director for Citizens For Responsible Oil and Gas (CFROG), and
Tomás Morales Rebecchi, Ventura County Organizer for Food and Water Watch (FFW), Field Director/Co-Campaign Manager for Measure Z, a successful voter initiative to ban fracking in Monterey Co, and on CFROG’s Board.

Rivers will summarize a current project of CFROG, which involves monitoring the results of water testing being ordered by the State Water Resources Control Board near oil waste sump pits and waste injection wells and other actions to prevent and reduce negative oil and gas effects on our local water supply.

Rebecchi will talk about his experience in December at Standing Rock, North Dakota, supporting the resistance of indigenous people to the Dakota Access Pipeline being constructed on their sacred land and under the Missouri River, as well as county initiatives to ban fracking, cyclic steam injection, and acidizing of oil wells.

Mni Wiconi Pacifica is a new local organization inspired by the resistance of indigenous people at Standing Rock, North Dakota, to protect water from being polluted.

WHY: Burning fossil fuels causes climate disruption for hundreds of years. Water is calling for our protection, for Earth and all living beings. Indigenous people are demonstrating the power of prayerful, non-violent resistance to pollution of air and water.

There was a federal assessment that cleared the way for FRACKING up the California Coast. California just filed a lawsuit challenging that.

PRESS RELEASE

“We must take every possible step to protect our precious coastline and ocean,” said Attorney General Harris. “The U.S. Department of Interior’s inadequate environmental assessment would open the door to practices like fracking that may pose a threat to the health and well-being of California communities. We must balance our energy needs with our longstanding commitment to protecting our natural resources and public health.”  READ MORE
