at the Simi Valley Cultural Arts Center

Who Controls the SSFL Cleanup -Boeing or the Public?
Join us on February 4 to learn new developments about the contamination and cleanup at the Santa Susana Field Laboratory. We will discuss:

• Proposed changes by the Los Angeles Regional Water Quality Control Board that would further weaken Boeing’s SSFL permit and allow more continuing migration of contamination in surface water runoff from SSFL. Learn more about the proposals to weaken the pollution permit.

• A recent decision by California Superior Court rejecting Boeing’s request to dump radioactive debris in sites not licensed for such waste, with no oversight by regulatory agencies. Read about the court ruling here.

• Communities near other contaminated sites that are also impacted by the failure of the state toxics department to protect them who have joined together to fight back. Read the People’s Senate report.

•Cleanup myths propagated by Boeing and its surrogates—claims of “moonscaping,” exaggerated soil volume estimates and truck numbers.

And more! Please join us for some straight talk about SSFL and learn what you can do to ensure its contamination is truly cleaned up.

Part of Statewide “California Crossroads Tour” to Promote the
February 7 March for Real Climate Leadership targeting Governor Brown

Oxnard, CA – When Governor Jerry Brown began his historic fourth term this month, he vowed to position California as a leader in the fight against climate change, in part by moving the state to 50% renewable energy by 2030. But, Brown’s vision is undermined by continued oil industry development in California, including fracking and other extreme extraction methods, wastewater injection into deep disposal wells, and the prospect of a dramatic increase of oil by rail.

Community leaders and expert speakers will inform Ventura County residents about how these dangerous oil industry practices affect our community. The forum is the third stop on the statewide “California Crossroads Tour,” hosted in partnership with the Californians Against Fracking coalition to bring awareness to these issues and to increase pressure on Governor Brown to protect our water, our health, and our communities by ending fracking, standing up to Big Oil, and moving beyond fossil fuels to 100% renewable energy. The tour also promotes the February 7 March for Real Climate Leadership in Gov. Brown’s hometown, Oakland; forum attendees will learn how to sign up for bus travel from Ventura County to Oakland for the March.
What: Panel discussion forum as part of statewide “California Crossroads Tour: Taking Back our Health and Communities” to promote the February 7 March for Real Climate Leadership

David Braun – CA Against Fracking
Madeline Stano – Staff Attorney, Center on Race, Poverty & the Environment
Jan Dietrick – Citizen’s Climate Lobby

Admission: $10 donation requested, but nobody will be turned away. Refreshments will be served beginning at 6:30; donations requested.

More information:

The March for Real Climate Leadership is hosted by a broad group of partner organizations and will bring thousands of people from across the state into the streets of Oakland on February 7 to call on Governor Brown to ban fracking, stand up to Big Oil, and move beyond fossil fuels to 100% renewable energy. More information is available at marchforclimateleadership.org.
