THIS JUST IN FROM CFROG —

Could wastewater injection trigger destructive earthquakes in Ventura County? California Geologic Energy Management Division (CalGEM) is requesting public input.

Carbon California oil company wants to drill 3 new wastewater injection wells in a fault zone in Ventura County.

Tell CalGEM that there needs to be a full review of earthquake risks before approving additional wastewater injection wells in a fault zone!

Comment details below

This project above Ojai would inject 3000 barrels per day of wastewater into a seismic active area near the San Cayetano fault.

The San Cayetano fault may be connected to the large Ventura/Pita Point fault which runs through the city of Ventura.

Please join us and urge CalGEM to consider the possible dangers that could result from wastewater injection into an active fault near a major population center.

Wastewater injection in a fault zone can cause fault lubrication, increasing the likelihood of earthquakes. The proposed wastewater wells would be adjacent to several faults, including the Big Canyon and San Cayetano faults, as well as numerous tear faults. These faults connect to the Ventura Fault, and could generate earthquakes in highly populated areas.

CalGEM Public Health Rulemaking Hearing
CalGEM is holding a series of online Public Health Rulemaking hearings to get public input as they update public health and safety protections for communities near oil and gas production operations. This is the perfect opportunity to voice concerns about this increased risk of earthquakes.

JUST IN FROM CFROG —

We Need Your Help!

WHEN: TUESDAY AFTERNOON, APRIL 23 AT 1 p.m.
WHERE: Supervisors meeting in Ventura (800 S. Victoria)

SUPPORT AN EMERGENCY BAN ON NEW TAR SANDS WELLS UNTIL THE SOURCE OF WATER CONTAMINATION IS EXAMINED!

On TUESDAY, Supervisor Steve Bennett will bring back an urgency ordinance for a temporary ban on new wells or re-drilling of existing wells that use steam injection near potable water. It requires four out of the five supervisors to vote YES.

Please contact your supervisors TODAY and let them know you support this action. Ask your friends in other districts to call or email before Tuesday. A fact sheet on the ordinance can be found here.

Per County Counsel:
“The USGS found indications that thermogenic petroleum-related gases are migrating into the potable water aquifers of the Fox Canyon aquifer system in the vicinity of steam injection and wastewater disposal wells. The study suggests that oil production involving steam injection may be causing or contributing to the migration of petroleum-related gases to, and the contamination of, the potable water aquifers. The USGS has indicated that additional study and assessment are needed regarding the issue.”

Please join in this urgent show of concern for our water and our health and safety…the most precious resource of all is at stake.

Stop the #FakeNationalEmergency! Presidents’ Day Protest Ventura
Facebook page: https://www.facebook.com/events/2474989142574688/

This is a NATIONAL EVENT!

DATE: President’s Day—Monday, 2/18 from noon to 1:30pm

LOCATION: The corner of Victoria and Telephone in Ventura in front of the Government Center (800 S Victoria Ave, Ventura)

DETAILS: Bring your flags, signs, dress in red, white, and blue – and show what real patriots look like!

Donald Trump has declared a #FakeNationalEmergency. This is an illegal power grab. In crisis moments like this, how the citizenry responds in the immediate aftermath can shape the course of our country’s history. That’s why MoveOn members and allies are launching hundreds of events all across the country.

Together, we will say NO to Trump’s power grabs, NO to his border wall, NO to xenophobia, and NO to HATE. Trump’s undemocratic power grab to secure his border wall is a direct attack on our democracy.

#FakeNationalEmergency is now in full swing.

Low Cost Tickets Available for Bus to Rise for Climate March in San Francisco

bus to Rise for Climate March in San Francisco, san francisco climate march 2018, ventura bus to Rise for Climate March in San Francisco

Sponsored by: Sierra Club, Ventura Climate Hub, 350 Santa Barbara, CAUSE & allies

JUMP ON THE BUS on Saturday, September 8th, with a dynamic group of activists to march in SF and push government leaders to deal with global warming. Share this once-in-a-lifetime adventure with potentially 50,000 people. Experience the camaraderie of a mass of humanity who shares your goal of a thrivable and resilient planet. Take part in street art, music, chants and merriment. Buy your ticket here today.

350 VC Climate Hub has just put a $5 Low/No Income ticket to San Francisco at the Eventbrite Charter Bus ticket sales page for the Rise for Climate March on Saturday, September 8.

They have reserved a late model relatively low emissions Roadrunner Charter Bus out of Camarillo that will stop at the Unitarian-Universalist Church of Ventura at 11:30 pm next Friday, September 7, then pick up riders in Santa Barbara and Isla Vista and head north for an early morning drop-off at the Embarcadero in San Francisco.

Experienced march organizers (who did this in NYC and DC) plan a smooth pick-up. You will know where to show up at the time specified by your bus captain Amber Bassett (sometime between 3 and 5 pm) for the ride back home. You’ll get back to the UU Church around midnight. Your car is safe in the back parking lot for the day.

Pack your food and drink, including items you can leave on the bus–a pillow or two, blanket, hoodie, warm socks, maybe earplugs if you need to withdraw from the vibrant, soul-filled conversation of other riders. Pack whatever helps make the ride home more comfortable that you can feel OK leaving with your bus driver for the day. There is plenty of room for walkers and wheelchairs and strollers.

There will San Fran food trucks at the Embarcadero bus drop-off point and at the end of the march at the Civic Center where a Resource Fair of partner organizations, campaigns, and projects will showcase the work that they do, how they educate people about climate change and just transition, and where people can get involved in art, technology and economic structures for humanity’s regeneration.

The march needs us. The moment needs us to step out and shout for climate justice and a fair transition to a safe world.

Thousands have been learning songs from The Peace Poets up and down the coast during the past three weeks. Be with them singing.  The people gonna rise like the water, We’re gonna calm this crisis down. I hear the voice of my great grand-daughter singing ‘Keep It In the Ground’.

Sliding scale charter bus tickets now as low as $5 as well as $20, $50, $85 and $100 in order to fill all 55 seats on the bus. Tickets are available on Eventbrite at RISE FOR CLIMATE MARCH SAN FRANCISCO: https://www.eventbrite.com/e/rise-for-climate-march-san-francisco-tickets-48614002791

Be a climate rider on the bus leaving from Ventura, Santa Barbara or Isla Vista!
