Join for a couple of hours, usually 2-4 if you carpool from the Waterlily or for less than an hour if you show up yourself at the times below. It is happening THIS MONTH and it is our one chance to talk to the students about alternatives to having their confidential information automatically shared with recruiters. The recruiters are on the campus and play a big role in running the high schools in our area. The students are grateful we are there, and much more importantly, in schools where Opt Out drives have occurred, there has been a drop in recruitment numbers. And while we are there we always include information on alternatives and encourage student leadership. Please, please join us! If you are interested, please reply to this e-mail. Under the “No Child Left Behind” federal legislation schools are required to share 11th and 12th grade students’ personal information with the military for recruitment purposes UNLESS parents and students sign an opt-out form. Members of the Topanga Peace Alliance (TPA) will be distributing military opt-out. While leafleting and talking with students last year, we found that many of them were unaware that the military would have access to their personal information or that they could opt-out.
