corporate funding universities, corporations buying land, farm land california, gill tract land, occupy the farm, protect farm land, selling public land

200 farmers occupy a last plot of pristine land in California’s urban East Bay (near UC Berkeley), plant 15,000 seedlings to feed the community and disrupt plans to convert the public land into a private real estate development.
The developers already snuck in and cut 60 trees (see 2nd video) eventhough there is a lawsuit to stop the development. The struggle is still going on to preserve this land for the community.

Washington States’ GMO Labeling initiative, I-522 as described by the Secretary of State’s office, the measure “would require most raw agricultural commodities, processed foods, and seeds and seed stocks, if produced using genetic engineering as defined, to be labeled as genetically engineered when offered for retail sale.”

PHONE APP: You know who the bad guys are. The brands and companies that have pumped millions into campaigns aimed at defeating your right to know. But there are a lot of companies on your side, too. The best way to reward those companies is to buy their products. So we’ve just made it a little easier to find them.

The Organic Consumers Association has created “Buy Organic Brands that Support Your Right to Know,” a campaign on the popular buycott.com mobile phone app. It works like this. First, download the app (it’s free), and sign up for our campaign. Then take your mobile phone with you to the store, and use the app to scan the barcode on products before you buy them. The app will look up the product, determine what brand it belongs to, and figure out what company owns that brand .Then it will cross-check the product owners against the companies and brands included in our “Right to Know” campaign. https://www.causes.com/posts/833171-buycott-theres-an-oca-app-for-that

Go with Inelia Benz on a shopping trip with a couple apps on her phone to help her and us make better food choices. Steering away from GMOs.
VIDEO: http://youtu.be/zTK2GRvr8NA

http://www.fooducate.com/
Fooducate automatically grades foods and beverage on a scale from A to D. There are 10 distinct grades: A, A-, B+, B, B-, C+, C, C-, D+, and D.

Fooducate’s  algorithm is based on information that is publicly available on a product’s package: the nutrition facts panel and the ingredient list. We do not receive any additional information from manufacturers.

The algorithm rewards minimally processed, nutrient dense foods with the highest grades. This means that real foods, with intrinsic nutrients will score better than processed foods that are poor in built-in nutrients and use fortification as a means to appear healthy.

http://buycott.com/
When you use Buycott to scan a product, it will look up the product, determine what brand it belongs to, and figure out what company owns that brand (and who owns that company, ad infinitum). It will then cross-check the product owners against the companies and brands included in the campaigns you’ve joined, in order to tell you if the scanned product conflicts with one of your campaign commitments.
