Too many fires started at once in Southern Cal, Greece, Australia and other places…not to consider this —

A directed-energy weapon (DEW) is a ranged weapon that damages its target with highly focused energy, including laser, microwaves and particle beams. Potential applications of this technology include weapons that target personnel, missiles, vehicles, and optical devices — WIKIPEDIA

Santa Susana field hit by Woolsey Fire, toxins from woolsey fire santa susana, Woolsey fire santa susana field laboratory fire

FROM BEYOND NUCLEAR — The Woolsey swept through the contaminated Santa Susana Field Laboratory site (SSFL)  just north of Los Angeles. There is some evidence that it actually started on the site. Work begins to assess whether or not radionuclides from this cold war research site were carried with the fire as it devastated 150,000 acres.

People in areas surrounding the contaminated Santa Susanna Field Laboratory site (SSFL) are worried that chemical and radioactive pollution may have been carried offsite by fire currents and smoke.

During the fire, the California Department of Toxic Substance Control (DTSC) did not warn the public and fire fighters that smoke from the fire could be carrying radioactive particles from the site. The DTSC “believed” there was no danger but refused to make public the methods used, and results of, any testing they have done. Now the public is seeking the truth from more trustworthy sources.

Fairewinds Energy Education has released sampling protocols (download here) for collecting environmental specimens within 100 miles of SSFL and/or the Woolsey fire and its smoke. These specimens will be analyzed for radionuclide content. Instructions for collecting, cataloging and shipping specimens are included as well as how to get additional information or answers to your sampling questions. Read More at Beyond Nuclear

contaminated area burned woolsey fire, petition to clean up Simi valley toxic nuclear waste dump, SSFL woolsey fire, Woolsey fire santa susana Field Laboratory

FROM — PHYSICIANS FOR SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY LOS ANGELES and Rocketdyne Cleanup Coalition
Last week, a fire broke out, at SSFL (Santa Susana Field Laboratories), burning hundreds of acres of vegetation growing in contaminated soil. That fire obviously released some of those contaminants and transported them offsite in the smoke. It is impossible to burn a contaminated site without releasing some of that contamination. Had the Responsible Parties met their obligations for full cleanup by last year, there wouldn’t be concern about the release of contamination in such a fire for those portions of SSFL that burned. And for those that didn’t, the failure to perform full cleanup as promised means continued risk any time a new fire might occur. *Santa Susan Field Laboratory is the site of several nuclear meltdowns and is a SUPERFUND toxic site.

11/13/18 – WHAT WE DON’T KNOW ABOUT SANTA SUSANA NUCLEAR SITE AFTER WOOLSEY FIRE (article contains photos)
http://www.laist.com/2018/11/13/santa_susana_nuclear_site_woolsey_fire.php
The Woolsey Fire has burned a good portion of the former Santa Susana Field Lab, which was once home to a nuclear reactor and numerous rocket tests. The site is still riddled with radioactive waste and other toxic compounds.
BACKGROUND: A 2012 EPA report doesn’t paint a pretty picture. Approximately one out of every seven samples contained “concentrations of radioactive materials exceeding background levels.” More than 80% of these were man-made radionuclides. This echoes a 1989 Department of Energy report found that there were contaminants in both the soil and the plants.

11/13/18 — FROM CBS https://losangeles.cbslocal.com/2018/11/13/santa-susana-field-laboratory-woolsey-fire/
Local, state and federal agencies have inspected the Santa Susana Field Laboratory and found that the nuclear Superfund site was not impacted by the Woolsey Fire.

—FROM Department of Toxic Substances Control
This is an update as of 1:30 a.m. on Nov. 9, 2018
The Woolsey Fire burned through a portion of the Santa Susana Field Laboratory (SSFL) yesterday. At this time, it is no longer burning within the SSFL site, and is moving away from the site. There is a fire station on the SSFL site, and both Ventura County and Los Angeles County fire personnel are assisting in the response. The fire agencies responding to the fire have consulted with their own Hazardous Materials coordinator who is familiar with the site and determined the fire did not present any risks other than those normally present in a wildfire situation. DTSC is actively monitoring the fire. DTSC emergency response staff has been in contact with staff at the Ventura County Certified Unified Program Agency. Our scientists and toxicologists have reviewed information about the fire’s location and do not believe the fire has caused any releases of hazardous materials that would pose a risk to people exposed to the smoke. More about Santa Susana Field

Wikipedia

SANTA SUSANA FIELD LABORATORY IS A SUPER-FUND SITE
The Santa Susana Field Laboratory is a complex of industrial research and development facilities located on a 2,668-acre (1,080 ha) portion of the Southern California Simi Hills in Simi Valley, California. It was used mainly for the development and testing of liquid-propellant rocket engines for the United States space program from 1949 to 2006, nuclear reactors from 1953 to 1980 and the operation of a U.S. government-sponsored liquid metals research center from 1966 to 1998.

The site is located approximately 7 miles (11 km) northwest from the community of Canoga Park and approximately 30 miles (48 km) northwest of Downtown Los Angeles. Sage Ranch Park is adjacent on part of the northern boundary and the community of Bell Canyon along the entire southern boundary.

Throughout the years, about ten low-power nuclear reactors operated at SSFL, in addition to several “critical facilities” that helped develop nuclear science and applications. At least four of the ten nuclear reactors had accidents during their operation. The reactors located on the grounds of SSFL were considered experimental, and therefore, had no containment structures.

The site ceased research and development operations in 2006. The years of rocket testing, nuclear reactor testing, and liquid metal research have left the site “significantly contaminated”. Environmental cleanup is ongoing.

THIS LOCATION IS A SUPER FUND CONTAMINATED SITE.

Protect CA Fire and Mudslide Victims from being re-victimized by those that caused these tragedies! URGENT! (More info)

California investor-owned utilities, including Southern California Edison, are working at the State Capitol to change California’s liability laws to shield themselves from financial liability if they are found responsible for the devastating recent fires in the State, including the Thomas Fire and the mudslides it caused.

Their proposed legislation,  AB 33, has already passed the CA Assembly and is heading into its final state Senate votes.

Sample details to use on call: I’m calling from [zip code] and I’m a survivor of the______/concerned neighbor, and we want state Senator [___] to vote against AB 33.

MORE script if you want it: If a utility, either public or privately owned, causes a wildfire that destroys people’s homes and lives, it should be held responsible under the law – just like everyone else. We respectfully request that you please vote against any legislation which would shield investor-owned utilities from liability for tragedies like the Thomas Fire and the following mud flows or the North Bay Fires.

Additional script ideas: Add your own personal story here. Or that of a friend. Share the story of your loss – how the fire and debris flow has impacted your life and help them understand how unjust it would be for survivors and their communities rather than SCE to be held responsible.
