Here are some petitions and links to free documentaries on Fracking. We need to keep up the pressure in California!
BAN FRACKING IN VENTURA
Fracking is a toxic method of oil and gas extraction that involves blasting vast quantities of water and toxic chemicals deep underground–and it’s endangering countless Californians’ health, safety and livelihoods.
BAN FRACKING IN LOS ANGELES
As the City celebrates the 100th anniversary of the Los Angeles aqueduct, the Sierra snow-pack is at historic lows and the need for L.A. to bolster and protect its local water supply is greater than ever. Currently, the single most ominous threat to L.A.’s water supply is fracking – hydraulic fracturing, acidizing and gravel packing and the hazardous activities related to them (including drilling and wastewater disposal). Fracking is a highly polluting form of oil and gas extraction that involves blasting huge volumes of water mixed with toxic chemicals into the earth to break up rock formations.
Support the fracking moratorium proposed by LA City Councilmembers Mike Bonin and Paul Koretz.
BAN FRACKING IN CALIFORNIA
California is already earthquake prone. Fracking will exacerbate the risks of earthquakes as huge hydraulic drills will core deep into the earth, moving already loose tectonic plates. Please! It is common sense. Additionally, poisonous gases will permanently pollute many precious aquifers, irreversibly poisoning our drinking water. Please follow the sane example of Vermont, and Ban Fracking in California.

WHY WE CAN’T AFFORD FRACKING –
1) There is a DROUGHT in California
Fracking uses a lot of water. It puts toxins in the water that are then circulated into the public water supply. California is a desert in case you didn’t know. We already have to bring most of our water in as it is. We can’t afford to let this continue. Dick Cheney got the exemption for franking put in place, so that they would not have to abide by the Clean water act or other safety measures previously put in place to prevent pollution of our water.
2) Fracking puts toxins in our WATER
It puts toxins in the water that are then circulated into the public water supply. Many of the chemicals they use are “proprietary” meaning “secret” so we don’t even know what is in the water. What are we bathing in? What are we drinking. It is not safe.
3) California is an Earthquake area
Fracking destroys our underground infrastructure, making it more susceptible to movement when an earthquake strikes. It has already caused land movement in many areas, with people’s homes nearby suffering structural damage over the years as the land underneath their houses has shifted.
There are more reasons why we need to stop this practice now and move on. Please do your own research.
