Occupy Ventura
Occupies City Hall
Friday, October 28 at 6 pm
501 Poli Street,Ventura CA 93002

Coming off a successful Oct. 15-16 action drawing people of all ages to Downtown Ventura’s Mission Park, Occupy Ventura is planning to now Occupy City Hall in solidarity with Occupy Wall Street.

In solidarity with Occupy Wall Street, Occupy Ventura continues its occupation this Friday at 6 pm at City Hall.

Ben, a local teacher said, “We are the poor, the working class and the middle class who are no longer willing to accept the government’s failure to attend to the needs of the people and continued abuses of the people by corporate interests.“

An increasingly worn out populace, battered after many years of the Wall Street-created economic crisis, has risen up and given birth to a new grassroots movement. Since Sept. 17, thousands of people (the 99%) have “occupied” public spaces around the country in protest, starting with Occupy Wall Street in New York City’s Zuccotti Park.

It is reported by Wikipedia that Occupy Protests are now going on in over 600 communities in the U.S. and in over 900 cities worldwide.

An official inquiry into the cause of the 2007 financial crisis has identified a toxic mix of widespread failures in financial regulation, risky lending and reckless Wall Street practices associated with mortgage-related securities. As the nation’s economy collapsed, $4.72 trillion of our tax money was disbursed to Wall Street as bailouts. Now, four years later, Wall Street barons are sitting on piles of cash and funneling contributions to politicians who promise to unravel the protections set up to prevent future crises.

The Top 1 percent are taking in more of the nation’s income than at any other time since the 1920s.

In the mean time, income inequality in the United States is at an all-time high, even topping levels seen preceding during the Great Depression. The Occupy movement represents the 99 percent of Americans who have been left behind and are fed up.

Minutes from GA meeting of Sunday, October 23, 2011

There was much discussion regarding the location of the occupation (parking lot of City Hall) beginning Oct 28, 2011.  Many indicated that if it was possible they would like to move to another location after the weekend.  The Government Center would be the optimal place.

Bell Arts contact person is Moses 805-509-7309 for meetings, sign making, etc.

Also Miguel is looking for someone to volunteer to handle the art exhibit through the month of November

A new hand signal was introduced…

a thumb up for an affirmative vote also indicating high level of involvement

a thumb sideways is an affirmative vote with little or no commitment

a thumb down for a no vote

Suggestion – that we start holding educational or informative workshops

A proposal was made to have only two GA meetings this coming week.  Tuesday and Thursday at 7:00 pm at Bells Arts Center located at Ventura Ave. And Prospect St.

This was met with consensus.

The meeting was concluded.
