The Climate Change Challenge and Solutions – Talk and Discussion

August 24, 2014
6:30 p.m.
Topping Room – E. P. Foster Library
651 E Main St, Ventura

The local chapter of Citizens Climate Lobby is hosting a program with two short talks followed by discussion. First, by Don Price, professional engineer now retired from the Ventura County Air Pollution Control District. He will speak about climate trends, climate science that indicates human involvement, and how climate change impacts California. There will be discussion about technologies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and ideas and actions that everyone can do to slow global climate change. Don has been giving this talk to high school biology classes for the past few years. Jan Dietrick of the Ventura Chapter of Citizens Climate Lobby will focus on government’s role in slowing greenhouse gas emissions. She will have an update about climate bills currently being considered by members of Congress including the fee and dividend legislation proposed by Citizens Climate Lobby that protects American business as well as poor Americans. Emissions reduction forecasts and economic factors are compared. Don explains the basics about global warming and, with Jan, offers a vision, especially for people who feel discouraged, of how working in groups to find ways to grow our personal and political power makes more sense than giving up.  No charge.
